"As she took in the lines and planes of his uncommonly spare unclothed back, her gaze gradually de-abstracted. In a matter of only a few seconds, in fact, her eyes appeared to jettison everything that was dark and heavy and to glow with fan-club appreciation."
after watching Claire Denis’ Friday Night tonight, i’m altogether convinced that i’m obsessed with romantic subtlety.
i’m a sucker for the moment when a lover turns his back to you in bed. while you’re still awake you examine the curvature of his spine, how his sizable shoulder blades protrude, the few idle scraggly hairs on his neck. his face is turned away and he’s likely to already have fallen asleep within mere minutes after first turning over but the moment he does, he’s untouchable. whether it’s longing you feel or betrayal or even love, the bare back of a man in bed lying next to you serves as some sort of emotional barrier. it’s as if back muscles themselves are a reminder of a man’s strength and without his sweet eyes and quivering lips visible he’s only really a product of those muscles - cold and contorted. and yet, the distance you feel isn’t always upsetting. it’s usually quite comforting. you can sleep, too, you know.
upon being first introduced, it’s clear that Laure isn’t exactly the prettiest woman - she sort of has manish facial features. by the end, she’s truly beautiful, though.
1) i’m signing a lease tomorrow! i will post pictures soon. it is my actual dream-zone. i had a different dream-zone but this one is the real deal.
2) i’m seeing Boris tonight.
3) i have a new phone and the buttons are kind of stiff but it works much faster obvo. i also have a new hot pink case so i guess i can pretend it’s pink…even though it’s silver. rats.
4) “Thanks A Lot” by 3eb never gets old. here’s the thing, though. i youtubed the song and the first thing that came up was a live version. holy smokes! jenkins is a hot mess. he just sounds really pitchy and it’s uncomfortable. i only listened to it for a few seconds because i thought it might taint my opinion of the song. luckily, it didn’t! i’m listening to the real recorded version now. PHEW! that was a close one.
